Granted, this really should be tagged as “rainbow” but what jumps out at me in this photo of Sugar Jones’ “Paradise Cupcakes” are the maraschino cherries sitting atop dollops of whipped pistachio frosting. So the breakdown of last year’s Southern California Cupcake Challenge competition winner is this:
- mandarin orange cake
- pineapple whipped cream filling
- pistachio frosting
- shredded dried coconut garnish
- maraschino cherries
Sounds kind of complicated and mind-boggling but all LA-based food bloggers who covered last years event raved about the “Paradise Cupcake”, likening it to a 1950’s tiki lounge cocktail. I guess I could see that- hollowed out pineapple, little pink and yellow umbrellas, a lingering taste of pina colada on your lips. Kind of divine actually.
Anyway, will be trying this on Wednesday. Precious, owner of Sugar Jones, will be delivering some samples to our office to try. Can’t wait. And I don’t even like maraschino cherries!
