Green- APC Flats

I am obsessed with things that go on my feet lately. And it doesn’t just stop at shoes–I’ve been eyeing socks and toe rings too. Fine, maybe not the toe rings although I’m predicting a comeback in Fall 2012.

And while I dream pennilessly of purchases that I can’t afford to make, I copy and paste my fantasies onto blog pages. These are wet dreams, sloppily drenched in drool and material-lust, and sadly, so far from being reality.

And with these pastel mint APC flats lurking, I should definitely treat myself to a one night “stand”. Har har har.

Cool your heels, missy

These LD Tuttle heels via Creatures of Comfort remind me that it’s time to swap in my beat up black high-top Chucks for something a little bit more raunchy, but not porn-raunchy, more like in an “I mean business”-kind of way. The exposed toe, heel, and achilles tendon are also symbolic: It’s revealing of a woman’s duality; the hard-ass-bitch who is secretly fragile and sensitive. Yep. That’s me. And every girl I know.

Catherine Deneuve

I enjoy French films not because I enjoy the directing or acting involved but because I like watching my personal style icons–these chic, classy, and cool French actresses–saunter into scenes, taking over with their sensuality. Anna Karina and Catherine Deneuve are two of my favorites.

The first time you spend the night at a new beau’s place, you are allowed to be unprepared. After all, that drink you were sipping on all night turned out to be four or five. The second time though, it’s crucial that you’re equipped. The walk of shame is not ok two times in a row. Neither is brushing your teeth with your fingers.

Your trip is incomplete without the perfect overnight bag. On top of being a responsible cuddler/bootie call/girlfriend-in-the-making, you need to make a statement. What better statement than with a fashionable carryall filled with overnight essentials like your toiletries (make-up remover = a must. Don’t ever sacrifice your skin for any man/woman), fresh pair of underthings, phone charger, and a little bottle of gin (in case he/she is out). Also, might be good to have a pair of shoes that doesn’t scream “catwalk” or “hooker”.

My pick is this fantastic Mulberry number. I was put onto GQ UK’s weekend bag countdown and found this in the mix. Yea, it’s virtually going to break the bank, but its still fun to look at. In NOIR of course.

Hedi Slimane’s Diary is one of my favorite things to look at when I’m in need of a visual-gasm, which is often. When I think of black, I think of the Hedi Slimane aesthetic, and subsequently his inspiring photo journal.

Onto my third week of German language studies, and one word I’ve developed a crush on is schwarz, which means black in English. Today, I’m donning schwarz from head to toe. I’m channeling Karl Lagerfeld, who happens to be German. Karl Lagerfeld = schwarz, all day everyday (with a dash of weiss around the head region).

Rainbow

“But that picture made so much noise. There was a lot of colors, right? “

West: “It was a lot of colors.Let me tell you another thing about … I’m doing a blog right now where I’ve been collecting all of the freshest stuff that’s rainbows — Denver Nuggets jerseys, BAPE shoes, Nikes with rainbows on ‘em — and saying, “Man I think as straight men we need to take the rainbow back because it’s fresh.” It looks fresh. I just think that because stereotypically gay people got such good like style that they were smart enough to take a fresh-ass logo like the rainbow and say that it’s gonna be theirs. But I was like “Man I think we need to have the rainbow” — the idea of colors , life and colors and stuff, I mean how is that a gay thing? Colors? Having a lot of colors is gay?”

“You once were quoted saying that you were inspired in fashion by how gay people dress.”

West: “And you know what? That’s when I was ignorant to gays. ‘Cause there’s a lot of gay people who don’t dress good at all. There’s a lot of gay people that I dress way better than.”

- Kanye West

kanye

Okay, in that quote alone Kanye is touching on a whole bunch of issues.

1) The power of branding a movement -The instant recognition of the rainbow as gay pride is powerful and lasting. How do we make that work for other movements?

2) Homophobia- Some people are afraid of embracing the full color spectrum because others might think they’re gay.  This is homophobia (and good branding).

3) Evolving styles in hip hop-  It takes someone with the self-confidence and success of Kanye West to change the guy’s hip hop style.  You can see it in the middle schools.

4) Gay stereotypes- Are all gay people fashionable and flamboyant? No. Did Kanye address this point in a cocky-Kanye way? Yes.

Gold

bless-4zipperwallet

I’m kind of a traditionalist when it comes to wallets.  I like simple leather designs. Function is important. That is why I’ve been using my Comme des Garcons one for so long that it’s scuffed and distressed. I tried to switch over to my mom’s hand-me-down vintage Bally wallet, gold on black patchwork, lovely until I had my purse stolen.

This is my newest obsession. 4-zipper-wallet by Bless. The gold is just loud enough but not overwhelming. I love Bless. Available at the Ooga Booga Store.
